Keep the Pillen's and Oedekoven's in your prayers
NEWCASTLE 11/18/2013 -- A 15-year old Newcastle junior firefighter died Monday morning after his car rolled over Sunday afternoon west of town.
Wyatt Pillen was driving when he lost control of his vehicle, according to a media release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol. Pillen over-corrected and his car rolled one and a half times. Both Pillen and his passenger, Vincent Oedekoven, 16, were thrown from the vehicle. Neither was wearing a seatbelt nor serving as a firefighter at the time of the accident. Pillen was sent from Newcastle’s Weston County Hospital to the Denver Children’s Hospital, where he died. Oedekoven was sent to Scottsbluff Regional West Medical in Nebraska where he remains.
Both Pillen and Oedekoven were members of the Newcastle Volunteer Fire Department Explorers. They were also cousins, according to websites established in memory of Pillen and to raise money for medical expenses for both teens.
The funds had raised more than $4,000 by Tuesday afternoon with a goal of $20,000. According to the website, Oedekoven is "fighting hard and doing fairly well." For more information, or to make a donation:
